Care & Maintenance
Protect your investment. Keep your padel gear performing at its best with these simple habits.
Racket Care Essentials
Use a Racket Cover
Always store your racket in a protective cover or bag when not in use. This prevents scratches, dents, and exposure to dust. A good padel bag with individual racket compartments is ideal.
Avoid Extreme Heat
Never leave your racket in a hot car or direct sunlight for extended periods. The Zambian sun can soften adhesives and warp the frame. After playing, store your gear in a cool, shaded place.
Keep It Dry
Wipe your racket down after every session, especially the grip area. Sweat and moisture can degrade the grip and affect the racket surface. During the rainy season, ensure your racket bag is waterproof.
Check for Damage
Regularly inspect your racket for cracks, chips, or soft spots on the face. Small chips on the frame edge are common but can worsen if left untreated. Replace your racket if you notice any structural damage.
Grip Replacement Guide
When to Replace Your Grip
- The surface feels smooth or slippery
- You can see wear marks or the grip is peeling
- You need to squeeze harder to hold the racket
- It has been more than 2-3 months of regular play
Overgrip vs Base Grip
- Overgrips are thin wraps applied over the base grip for extra cushion and absorption
- Replace overgrips frequently (every 5-10 sessions)
- Base grips last longer but should still be replaced every few months
- In Zambia's heat, overgrips with high absorption work best
Ball Care Tips
Padel balls lose pressure over time. Expect 2-3 sessions of optimal performance per can.
Store unopened cans in a cool place. Heat accelerates pressure loss even in sealed cans.
Used balls are great for practice, solo drills, or warming up before using fresh ones.
Consider a ball pressuriser to extend the life of your balls between sessions.
Playing in Zambia's Climate
Zambia's distinct seasons each bring different challenges for your gear. Here's how to adapt.
Hot Season (September - November)
Courts get extremely hot. Play early morning or late afternoon. Keep rackets in the shade between games. Hydrate constantly and bring extra overgrips as they wear faster in the heat.
Rainy Season (November - April)
Moisture is the main risk. Keep your bag sealed and dry. Outdoor courts may be slippery after rain. Wipe your racket and shoes thoroughly after every session.
Cool Season (May - August)
The best time to play. Lower temperatures mean better ball performance and more comfortable sessions. Still protect your racket from morning dew if playing early.
